Starting Reception at FVIS

Welcome to the FVIS Family!
We are delighted that you will be joining us. Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we are here to make the transition as smooth and happy as possible for your child and your family.
What to Expect
In the summer term before your child starts, you can expect:
- Welcome meeting for parents to meet the Reception team and learn about school life
- Stay and play sessions where your child can visit the classroom and meet their new teachers
- Home visits from the class teacher to meet your child in a familiar environment
- Information pack with everything you need to know about starting school
Settling In
In September, Reception children have a gentle start to help them settle in:
- •Shorter days in the first week or two
- •Small group starts so teachers can focus on each child
- •Plenty of play-based learning to build confidence
- •Regular communication with parents about how your child is settling
Preparing for School
You can help your child get ready for school by encouraging:
- •Independence with dressing - especially shoes and coats
- •Using the toilet independently
- •Eating lunch with a knife and fork
- •Recognising their own name
- •Sharing and taking turns
- •Talking about feelings and emotions
Don't worry if your child isn't doing all of these yet - we'll support them every step of the way!
