World Book Day 2026
What a wonderful World Book Day we had on Thursday 5 March! The whole school came together to celebrate books, reading and the joy of stories. Children and staff alike dressed up as their favourite book characters – the costumes were colourful, creative and full of character!
Reading for Fun
This year’s World Book Day theme reflects the National Year of Reading (2026) tagline: Go All In – ‘If You’re Into It, Read Into It’. It’s all about connecting reading to what interests children the most.
Whole School Storytime Mix-Up
We began the day with our Whole School Storytime Mix-Up. Children gathered in the hall where different members of staff did a ‘pitch’ about their chosen storybook. The children then chose which story they wanted to hear and went off for storytime in different spaces across the school.
Sharing the Love of Books
Each class spent time finding out about each other’s interests and favourite books. In the afternoon, children from different year groups shared books together – it was a real joy to watch Year 2 children reading to Reception. The pride and care they showed was really moving.
We truly did see reading happening anywhere and everywhere!
Book Tokens
Each child took home a £1 World Book Day book token, valid until Sunday 15 March. These can be used to purchase one of the special edition £1 books or get £1 off a more expensive book at independent booksellers, supermarkets and high street shops.
Thank You
Thank you so much to everyone – parents, staff and children – for all of the effort that went towards dressing up as favourite book characters. It created lots of excitement and fantastic talk about books. We’ll build on our World Book Day discoveries over the coming months to find new ways to get every child excited about reading.
