Curriculum Map
Spring is in the air, and Year 1 has had a truly "roaring" half term!
The highlight was undoubtedly our trip to Gatton Park, where the children became budding naturalists—investigating animal skulls, eggs, and feathers, and even role-playing as bees during a sunny flower hunt.
In English, inspired by Ella Bailey’s In the Savannah, we explored the lives of African wildlife. The children became "lion experts," producing fact cards, documentary voice-overs, and creative "kenning" poems.
Maths, we mastered partitioning numbers up to 50, estimating on number lines, and exploring the fundamentals of length and measurement.
In Geography, we compared the Sahara and Antarctica, learning how proximity to the equator affects climate. In Science, we classified animals by their diets (carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores), while History saw us journeying back 100 years to discover the origins of the first teddy bear.
From mastering the first steps of sewing in DT to experimenting with secondary colours in the style of Clarice Cliff, our creativity has been on full display. In Music, we prepared beautiful performances for our Easter Assemblies, while our RE and PSHE sessions focused on the stories of Jesus and the importance of staying healthy and safe.
A huge well done to Foxes and Hedgehogs for their wonderful class assemblies—you shared your learning with such pride. We wish everyone a restful break and can't wait for next term!
